Good Omens: Lockdown

How in the hell did I miss this?

From io9:

The video takes place largely in voiceover, with some gorgeous footage of cakes, books, and portraits of Arizaphale and Crowley underneath. The divine duo chat over the phone about how their lives have been since social distancing started—Arizaphale has been making cakes for burglars, while Crowley just wants to put himself to sleep for several months until (hopefully) it’s all over. That is, unless Arizaphale would be cool with him coming over for awhile… naughty demon.

Marc Levoy Heads to Adobe — July 20, 2020

Marc Levoy Heads to Adobe

Per The Verge:

Levoy will be working on computational photography initiatives across Adobe, and intriguingly, his efforts will be “centered on the concept of a universal camera app,” the company said in an email.

This really is quite the get for Adobe, not to mention a huge benefit to every smartphone manufacturer not named Google. Levoy was the mastermind behind Google’s entire computational photography division, which included their much loved Night Sight feature. And if Adobe really is working on a universal camera app that has that kind of computational punch behind it, why would the average Android user buy a Pixel?

More intriguing still, is what this means for the iPhone. This fall with iOS 14 users will be able to set default email and browser apps. Reason would have it that next year in iOS 15 users will be able to set more and different default apps. Who’s to say the camera couldn’t be one of those? This all could add up to a VERY big loss for Google.

Concerning “the blind leading the blind”

Fellow Seattleite and developer Olof Hellman on the phrase “the blind leading the blind”:

Let your guide take you to Pike Place Market and taste the coffee and the piroshky and the crumpets and the nectarines and the chowder. Let your guide take you to the Olympic Sculpture Park, to hear the city and the train tracks and the ferry and the the wind curling around Alexander Calder’s Eagle, and taste the air from the Sound and feel the full force of the sunset. Let your guide take you to Sake Nomi where Johnnie will pour you a flight of Junmai Daiginjoshu and treat you like the Nomidachi regulars.

This is quite the beautiful sentiment. And those piroshky are to die for.

Why You Shoud Watch The Magicians — April 2, 2020

Why You Shoud Watch The Magicians

Look, The Magicians is f#@king weird, unabashedly. It’s like mid-20s Harry Potter on opium meets The Chronicles of Narnia with a drinking problem and chronic depression.

Casey DeFreitas

This, and the post it’s from, pretty much nails the series. I had never read the books, so I didn’t know what I was getting into when The Magicians first aired. But like many, I fell in love.

If you’re looking for something new to watch during the apocalypse, I highly recommend it.

Why You Should Ignore All That Coronavirus-Inspired Productivity Pressure

Came across this fantastic article today. It was written to help people that are struggling through their day to day lives in this new reality.

This quote really hits home for me. As someone who lived through 9/11 and the wars to follow, this pandemic has such a similar feel.

Global catastrophes change the world, and this pandemic is very much akin to a major war.

Fascinating article. Click the link and give it a read. Stay safe.
